Self-Organization and Supply Chain Coordination

Half Day Seminar (8:00 a.m. to Noon)

April 17, 2008 at The Clock Tower Resort

7801 East State Street, Rockford

Participants will review the results of a recent survey of Chicago area CEO’s and their views of the supply chain function.  One primary issue is their desire to improve collaboration with customers and suppliers.  Additionally, participants will dig deep into an example of supply chain collaboration through revenue sharing.  Finally, participants will explore the area of self-organization within production and supply chain systems, and discuss how self-organizing systems can be used to foster supply chain collaboration.

Professor Eisenstein is a Professor Operations Management at the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business, where he has been on the faculty since 1992.  Professor Eisenstein holds a B.S. in Engineering Management and Mathematical Science from Southern Methodist University, and an M.S. and a Ph.D. in Operations Research from The Georgia Institute of Technology.  His research interests are in the modeling and improvement of operational systems. The focus of his research investigates how to organize systems to make them self-organize, or automatically tend toward a configuration of balance and efficiency. This work has led to improvements to manufacturing lines, order picking lines, and service operations.  Professor Eisenstein has also worked with the city of Chicago to reengineer the distribution system for the public schools, and improve its refuse collection system. His work has appeared in leading academic journals.
